3×3 Basketball World Cup – Day 1
The first day of the 3×3 World Cup was a frenetic affair, full of action and drama. From early on it was easy to see why 3×3 is growing around the world. The non-stop string of matches, both men and women, continued throughout the day. There DJ and on-court announcers had the capacity crowd bouncing all day.
Both Netherlands men and women had a perfect day, winning both of their respective matches. The men were impressive with a big 19-12 win over the USA. But the women were not to be outdone with a 17-12 victory over World Cup 2016 runners-up Ukraine.
Andorra men had a thrilling buzzer beater 15-14 win over Egypt which had the crowd erupting.
But the big game of the day for 3x3ballers was Serbia v Russia. It featured Dusan Bulut whose nickname is ‘Mr Bullutproof’. Bulut represents the modern 3×3 player with a range of skills that make him standout in the 3×3 discipline of the sport.
The match itself did not disappoint going all the way to the end, with Serbia coming out on top 20-17.
The home crowd saw the French women lose to Switzerland 13-15. However, they bounced back with a win over Turkmenistan 17-9.
And this brings 3x3ballers back to its continuing theme – if Andorra and Turkmenistan can compete at 3×3 why can’t Great Britain?
